A warmer than usual December day provided an opportunity for a partnership with Kiwanis Club of Scarborough. Our president, Frederica Joseph, and 12 residents of Rodda Blvd decided to clean up the debris filled neighbourhood and have a Winter Community Cleanup.
The cleaning crew comprised of residents between the ages of 5 – 47 for a family filled event. They picked up debris composed of items such as cigarette butts, old masks to empty chip bags and chocolate bar wrappers. Many pieces of garbage that get blown around the streets collect in grass, around tree stumps and fences, they focused on these areas and cleaned the sidewalks and boulevards.
Some community members expressed their appreciation by honking horns or shouting “thank you” from car windows. Some residents opened the front doors of their homes to thank the cleaning crew. A few Kiwanis Club pamphlets were handed out to those inquiring about our activity. We ended the cleaning day with some hand sanitization, hot chocolate and pizza.
The cleaning event was a success and we will plan more community events like this in 2024. If you are interested in joining this initiative please contact the Kiwanis Club of Scarborough.
