Our First Interclub Service Project – Tree Planting with Kiwanis Club of East York!
Our first interclub service in November was participating along with Kiwanis Club of East York in the 132nd Toronto Scouts Fall Tree Planting on November 5th. Here are some pictures along with our President Frederica’s thoughts on her experience. Frederica and her daughter, Haleema took part.
President Frederica’s thoughts:
The word Kiwanis, according to etymologists, comes from the word giiwanzi, or ningiiwanzi, an Algonquin/Ojibwe/Chipawa, word that has several translations: to fool around, to make noise, to make oneself known, and original kiwanians translated is as to build.
The Kiwanis tree planting experience in Taylor Creek Park was a true Kiwanian activity. This was the 132nd Toronto Scouts Fall Tree Planting on Nov. 5th 2023. Pictured here with Pat Lawrance, 132nd Toronto Scouts Group, but also (East York Kiwanis Member) is Kiwanis Club of Scarborough President Frederica Joseph and her daughter Haleema planting trees. Haleema and I helped build a forest, had a lot of fun, and got to know new people, Pat, Pam, Mike, Steve and John, and they got to know us. We met some members of a East York key club who also came out to plant trees.
Planting trees was fun, but it is even more amazing when you’re with great people.
